En-Suite
This room, along with the Master Bedroom was allocated as my "Feature Room" in the apartment; in other words it had to be completed by Wednesday lunchtime of filming week. The sanitary ware itself was selected by the Developer but I chose sleek modern chrome taps to boost the standard white units. In keeping with my Master Bedroom I have opted for a very relaxing interior, a soothing haven away from the hustle & bustle of the city centre.
My tiles are ceramic in a very pale ivory/gray hue with an unusual matte ribbed finished. Whilst the floor tiles are square in shape my corresponding wall tiles are considerably larger - approximately a metre wide, and these I have stacked directly one on top of the other. As this is a small room and I have elected to tile all 4 walls from ceiling to floor, I have incorporated a single thin dividing aluminum strip around the room so as to break the monotony of the look, whilst adding another intriguing dimension to the tiles. I have also introduced a vertical strip of ribbed blue/grey tiles off-centre at the end of the bath, which can deliberately be seen from the Master Bedroom.
As there are no windows in here I have opted for two chrome spotlights overhead. I have mounted a large rectangular mirror above the wash hand basin so as to reflect the light and enhance the impression of space, beneath a sleek chrome and glass shaving light. At the planning stage I requested a wall-to-wall ivory vanity unit to house the wash-hand basin, in keeping with the large built-in wardrobe in the Master Bedroom on the opposite side of the door. I sourced a single contemporary glass shelf for above the WC, offering additional storage as well as being an attractive contemporary feature.
The result is an undeniably unique En-suite with a very relaxed, "Zen" Japanese look and feel. This theme has been further enhanced through my choice of accessories and toiletries, as well as a calming bonsai and sleek, creative floral display.
