"Cronia's apartment had a very strong overall look... Beautiful styling was apparent everywhere."

Neville Knott, presenter of RTE 1's Showhouse

Bedroom 2
This is an almost mirror image of the Master Bedroom in terms of layout although it is slightly shorter in length. I have chosen a simple low oak bed with complimentary neat oak glass-topped bedside lockers so as to create the illusion of a spacious, free-slowing sleeping space. I deliberately steered away from an overly feminine look in here and have therefore chosen modern bed linen in cool shades of blue and beige. This works well with the subtle beige carpet (in continuity with the Master Bedroom) and I have ensured that the scheme is given an injection of warmth through my choice of window dressing fabric and accessories. I have elected not to hang curtains in here as every centimetre of space is of the utmost importance; I have therefore opted for understated sliding fabric panels, which sit within the recess of the window. Horizontal blinds of any description would, I feel, not give sufficient privacy from the busy street below when open.

Everyday storage is of course an issue in here also and I have sourced attractive, neat-fitting storage boxes to house items such as shoes under the bed in addition to an attractive built in wardrobe just inside the door. As the bedroom door opens to the left onto the slim-line radiator there is a good degree of extra space for this storage unit to stand along the right wall up as far as the light switch. I have mounted a plain full-length mirror on the exposed side of the wardrobe just inside the bedroom door so as to maximise space.

Again, artwork has been kept to a minimum and has been used to inject colour and character into this cooler palette. This also compliments my choice of artwork in the Master Bedroom, ie the large sepia-coloured floral canvas at the foot of the bed. My ceiling light fixture in here is much less ornate than that in the other bedroom in keeping with the smaller scale of this room. As in the Master Bedroom, the main pendant light operates on a dimmer switch and there is a neat contemporary reading lamp on either bedside locker. The look is softened by an abundance of luxurious, textured scatter cushions in warm aquamarine and beige shades layered on the bed. In addition, I have strategically positioned potted plants on the balcony so as to screen off the room from the busy street below when the window screens are fully open.
